Check them out on You Tube. Unintentionally sequestered away from the withering influence of popular musical culture, The Kindness have managed to remain beautifully un-homogenized. Hailing from the wilds of Idaho, they’ve found themselves raising a musical middle finger to the snobbery that would reflexively write off any music that such wilds might produce. Choosing instead to nurture their idiosyncrasies as songwriters and college professors they remain strangers in a strange land, performing arty, quasi-jazz originals in a state made famous for its potato farming.

Seattle-based pianist Bill Anschell and saxophonist Brent Jensen beautifully present a jazz duet for what it is, one of the most intimate and creative forms of musical collaboration. Each are eloquent, skilled musicians that have the gift of empathy. And, like two premier dancers in a pas de deux, or two talented actors in a climactic scene, or a great comedic duo improvising, Anschell and Jensen’s performance together is a joy to experience. It is full of emotional intensity, chemistry, quick wit, and impeccable timing.
